To actively promote educational cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and advance the university’s internationalization and high-quality development, Vice President Su Haijia of Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) led a delegation to visit Poland, Croatia, and Hungary from October 15 to 24. The itinerary included the University of Warsaw and Lodz University of Technology (TUL) in Poland, the University of Zagreb in Croatia, and the University of Miskolc, Óbuda University, and Széchenyi István University in Hungary. The delegation also visited Wanhua-BorsodChem and met with officials at the Chinese Embassies in Poland and Hungary. In-depth discussions were held on substantive cooperation in areas including inter-university collaboration, joint student training programs, establishment of joint laboratories, Confucius Institute development, and scientific research innovation. Building on earlier communications that resulted in a university-level cooperation framework agreement with the University of Information Technology and Management inRzeszów, Poland, Vice President Su Haijia signed university-level cooperation agreements with TUL and Széchenyi István University during this visit, achieving fruitful outcomes.
On the morning of October 15, the delegation visited the University of Warsaw and held talks with Vice Rector Professor Zygmunt Lalak and Professor Jacek Jemielity, the Director of the Centre of New Technologies. Both sides briefly introduced their universities’ development history, key disciplines, and talent cultivation programs, and reached consensus on jointly applying for international cooperative research projects and expanding undergraduate exchange programs, laying a solid foundation for further in-depth cooperation between the two universities. Later the same day, the delegation toured the University of Warsaw’s Art Education Center.

On October 16, the delegation visited TUL and held talks with Rector Krzysztof Jóźwik, Dorota Piotrowska, Director of the International Cooperation Center, and other representatives. The two sides held in-depth discussions on future research collaboration in key disciplines, short-term student exchanges, and joint talent cultivation programs such as “2+2” and “3+1” models. They offered constructive recommendations and signed an inter-university cooperation agreement. During the visit, the delegation also toured TUL’s chemistry course laboratories, the conference center, and sports center.

At the Chinese Embassy in Poland, Counsellor Yi Jun met with the delegation. Vice President Su Haijia briefed the Counsellor on recent communications and anticipated cooperation outcomes between BUCT and Polish universities in areas such as faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and academic collaboration, expressing gratitude for the embassy’s long-term support. Counsellor Yi Jun commended BUCT’s efforts to expand educational and research cooperation with Poland. He encouraged the university to continue leveraging its disciplinary strengths and to promote bilateral cooperation and exchanges through more diverse and effective approaches, adding that the embassy would actively provide assistance.

On October 18, the delegation visited the University of Zagreb in Croatia and held talks with Ante Jukić, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, and heads of relevant departments. The two sides had conducted mutual visits in 2024 and 2025. Vice President Su Haijia provided a detailed overview of BUCT’s development in key disciplinary areas and its internationalization strategy. Both sides recognized the high degree of commonality in their research fields and looked forward to deepening educational cooperation building on this foundation. Dean Ante Jukić expressed his hope to visit BUCT in 2026 and to sign a cooperation agreement. The delegation then visited the Confucius Institute at the University of Zagreb and toured the institute’s calligraphy and Go classrooms. On the morning of October 20, at the University of Miskolc (ME) in Hungary, Vice President Su Haijia and the delegation held a tripartite meeting with Vice Rector Roland Szilágyi of ME, Vice President Béla Varga of Wanhua-BorsodChem, and relevant officials in charge of ME’s international cooperation. They discussed the establishment of joint international talent cultivation programs between the two universities and related mechanisms. After the meeting, leaders from all three parties jointly attended a press conference and officially announced the launch of the “2+2” joint training program in Chemical Engineering and Technology between BUCT and ME. On the afternoon of the same day, the delegation visited ME’s Centre for Higher Education and Industrial Cooperation (FIEK) and met with BUCT faculty members stationed at the Confucius Institute at ME, where they received a briefing from Director Zhao Jing.

On the morning of October 21, the delegation visited Wanhua-BorsodChem and held discussions with General Manager Lü Hongjie, Vice President for Administration Yang Guangjun, and other executives. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the operational plan, scholarships, training programs, and curriculum for the Chemical Engineering and Technology “2+2” project between BUCT and ME. On the same day, the delegation traveled to Budapest to visit Óbuda University. The delegation met with Vice Rector Zoltán Rajnai, Director of Operations Johanna Sápi of the Faculty of Informatics, and Vice Dean for Education Tünde Kovács of the Faculty of Mechanical and Safety Engineering. They discussed possible forms of cooperation in research and talent cultivation, proposing to use summer schools as a starting point to deepen mutual understanding and enhance cooperation quality. Both sides reached consensus on signing a university-level cooperation agreement as soon as possible.

On the morning of October 22, the delegation traveled to Győr, Hungary, to visit Széchenyi István University. Réka Orosz-Barczi, Director of International Relations, and Marcella Telek, Head of the Centre for International Communications and Alumni, provided a comprehensive overview of the university’s disciplinary and program offerings, key research areas, and distinctive approaches to talent cultivation. Both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on research cooperation and joint talent cultivation models in fields such as Information Science and Technology and Mechanical Engineering, reaching consensus on actively launching summer schools and implementing “2+2” joint cultivation programs. Vice President Su Haijia and Vice Rector Eszter Lukács jointly signed a university-level cooperation agreement. Prior to the meeting, the delegation toured the university’s newly established university-industry cooperation and innovation platform.

At the Chinese Embassy in Hungary, Counsellor Han Dongsheng met with the delegation. Vice President Su Haijia provided a detailed overview of the progress of cooperation between BUCT and several Hungarian universities in areas including faculty and student exchanges, research collaboration, and Confucius Institute development. Counsellor Han Dongsheng commended BUCT’s achievements in advancing China-Hungary science and education cooperation, emphasized that the embassy would continue to support BUCT’s international exchange and cooperation, and expressed his hope that BUCT would achieve further breakthroughs in fostering friendship between China and Hungary.

This marks BUCT’s first delegation visit to the University of Warsaw and TUL in Poland, as well as Óbuda University and Széchenyi István University in Hungary. A total of three cooperation agreements were signed, further expanding BUCT’s global cooperation network. The delegation included Yan Hong, Vice Dean of the School of International Education (acting Dean); Li Qing, Director of the Admissions Office; Zhang Fan, Vice Dean of the College of Information Science and Technology; and Wang Lei, Vice Dean of the College of Life Science and Technology.
