BUCT Successfully Launches Orientation and Entrance Education for 2025 International Students

At the beginning of the fall semester, the School of International Education (SIE) at Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) successfully launched the orientation program for the 2025 cohort of international students. Guided by the principles of “Welcoming, Orderly, and Integrative”,SIE offered thoughtful arrangements such as well-organized welcome activities, volunteer support, and “one-stop” service station, fostering a welcoming environment for new students from 21 countries and supporting their smooth integration into campus life.

During the orientation days on September 7 and 9, SIE organized a series of vibrant Chinese and international cultural exchange activities at the welcome booths. Interactive games such as the “Teach Your Native Language” challenge attracted enthusiastic participation from students of different countries. Senior international students showcased their fluent Chinese, with Maxi from Pakistan delivering the Shandong dialect phrase “ha (local slang-drink) beer and eat gala (clam),” which drew bursts of laughter from the audience and enlivened the atmosphere, further promoting cross-cultural communication and friendship.

To ensure an efficient and orderly registration process, SIE set up a “one-stop” service station at the Changping Campus on September 9. By presenting their admission documents, new students were able to complete all the required procedures, including tuition payment, accommodation, insurance, and visa processing, in a single visit. Faculty members and volunteer teams worked in close collaboration to answer questions, distribute campus cards, and guide students in quickly familiarizing themselves with the campus environment, demonstrating SIE’s commitment to efficient and pragmatic service.

SIE places a strong emphasis on enhancing the living experience of new students. School leaders visited the new student dormitories, conducted a thorough inspection of the accommodation facilities, and showed concern for students’ living needs, ensuring that they feel at home even while studying abroad.

To help new international students start their campus life smoothly, SIE prepared practical welcome packages containing an enrollment guide for international students, program handbooks for master’s and doctoral students, tote bags with SIE logo, umbrellas, campus ID card holders, and other daily necessities, reflecting SIE’s thoughtful care and commitment to students’ well-being.

On September 18th, SIE held an Opening Ceremony of Orientation Education for new international students at the Qiuzhen Lecture Hall on the Changping Campus. Attendees included SIE leaders, faculty representatives, and all new international students attended the event, which was hosted by Professor Yu Yue, vice dean of SIE.

During the ceremony, Professor Li Qifang, Chair of SIE delivered a welcome speech. He extended a warm welcome to all new students on behalf of the college, encouraging them to actively adapt to the new campus environment, set ambitious goals for their growth, strive for integration, and diligently enhance their capabilities.

Professor Yan Hong, Acting dean of SIE provided a detailed introduction to the University and outlined the core policies and key regulations regarding international student management, providing clear guidance for new students to quickly integrate into campus life.

Following this, Professor Yu Yunhua delivered a lecture on Scientific Research and Academic Innovation, providing guidance for students’ academic development. Officer Jia Xianlin from the Changping Entry-Exit Administration introduced key policies on visa management and legal compliance, enhancing students’ awareness of safety and self-protection issues. A representative from the insurance company outlined the use and claims process of student insurance. SIE also arranged a lecture on cross-cultural mental health to help new students adapt to cultural differences and campus life.

Finally, staff from the Division of International Student Affairs and the SIE Office systematically explained university regulations, codes of conduct, attendance and dormitory management, as well as upcoming activity arrangements. Their guidance helps new students clarify their rights and responsibilities during their studies and lays a solid foundation for building a harmonious campus environment.

This opening ceremony marks the beginning of the entrance education series for the 2025 international students. From September to November, SIE will organize a diverse range of informative activities and lectures, including campus tours, Mid-Autumn Festival cultural experiences, anti-financial fraud training, fire safety drills, health education sessions, guidance on using Chinese and foreign academic databases, academic advising, and sessions on graduate training processes and graduation requirements. These initiatives aim to provide comprehensive support for international students as they adapt to their new environment and embrace their new life at BUCT.
