From March 31st to April 9th, BUCT Vice President Liang Yongtu led a delegation to visit University College London, the University of Manchester, the University of Edinburgh, University College Dublin, and the University of Miskolc. The delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with these institutions on advancing inter-university cooperation, student and faculty exchange programs, joint scientific research, and the co-construction of Confucius Institutes.

On March 31st, the delegation visited University College London (UCL) and had meetings with Professor Gareth Williams, Head of the Research Department of Pharmaceutics, and Mr. Christopher Speller, Global Engagement Coordinator. During the meetings, preliminary cooperation intentions were reached in areas such as faculty academic exchanges, joint student training, and student exchange programs. Professor Prospero Tironi, Deputy Director for the Institute for Materials Discovery, guided the delegation on a tour of the campus of UCL East and its laboratories, during which both sides exchanged insights on topics including new campus construction, laboratory safety management, and equipment procurement.

BUCT Delegation Visiting the Chinese Consulate-General in Manchester
On the morning of April 1st, the delegation visited the University of Manchester and met with Professor Chris Hardacre, Head of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The two sides discussed collaborative opportunities in joint student training programs, faculty exchanges, and scientific cooperation etc., and reached a preliminary cooperation intention. The delegation also toured the James Chadwick Building and the Industrial Hub for Sustainable Engineering, exchanging ideas on matters such as laboratory safety and equipment procurement.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Chinese Consulate-General in Manchester and met with Education Counselor Liang Yan. Vice President Liang Yongtu outlined the purpose and achievements of the visit and requested the Consulate’s guidance and support for BUCT’s international collaborations. Counselor Liang highly praised the efforts of the delegation, expressing hopes that BUCT would deepen ties with high-level overseas universities and institutions, and pledged full support for cooperation with universities in the Consulate’s jurisdiction.

On April 2nd, the delegation visited the University of Edinburgh. They engaged in talks with Professor Iain Gordon, Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Science and Engineering, and reached preliminary agreements on student and faculty exchanges, long- and short-term exchange programs, and signed a summer camp agreement and relevant data protection agreements. The delegation also visited the King’s Buildings campus and laboratories to learn about their experience in cross-campus management, laboratory safety protocols, and equipment procurement. Finally, the delegation gave a presentation on BUCT’s summer camp programs to Edinburgh students, which sparked strong interest among attendees.

From April 3rd to 5th, the delegation visited University College Dublin (UCD) and met with Vice President Tom Curran and Dr. Anna Noonan, Director of the UCD Centre for English and Global Languages. The two sides had discussions on student semester exchanges, faculty academic collaborations, joint research, and guest lectures. The delegation then toured UCD’s campus facilities, especially dining halls and student dormitories, to exchange insights on campus management with relevant faculties.
Vice President Liang Presenting Appointments to Alumni
During their stay in Ireland, the delegation hosted an alumni meeting in Dublin. Vice President Liang conveyed greetings on behalf of BUCT and presented certificates of appointment to the President and Vice President of the Ireland Alumni Association. He encouraged the association to strengthen alumni connections by giving full play to its role of platform, and further promote mutual development between the alumni and BUCT.

From April 6th to 8th, the delegation visited the University of Miskolc (UM), Wanhua-BorsodChem Group, and the Chinese Embassy in Hungary. At UM, the delegation met with Vice President Roland Szilágyi and Dr. Daniel Kuttor, Foreign Director of the UM Confucius Institute, discussing matters concerning advancements in Confucius Institute construction, student exchanges, faculty collaborations, and scientific partnerships. The delegation also toured around UM’s library, gymnasium, and dormitories to learn about campus management practices.
BUCT Delegation Visiting BUCT-UM Confucius Institute
At the BUCT-UM Confucius Institute, the delegation held discussions with Chinese and foreign faculty and listened to a work report from Chinese Director Zhao Jing. Vice President Liang expressed sincere gratitude to the faculty and provided guidance for the institute’s future development. The delegation then visited Wanhua-BorsodChem’s new plant and local projects and engaged in talks with the group representatives. As a co-founder of the UM Confucius Institute, Wanhua-BorsodChem has provided substantial support to the institute’s establishment. During the meeting, both parties explored future cooperative opportunities in the co-construction of the Confucius institute and the advancement of school-enterprise talent training programs.
BUCT Delegation Visiting the Chinese Embassy in Hungary
On the morning of April 9th, the delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Hungary and met with Education Counselor Han Dongsheng. Counselor Han highly commended the visit and pointed out the important role of the Confucius institute as a cultural bridge that fosters Chinese-Hungarian friendship. He also expressed full support for BUCT’s collaborations with Hungarian universities and the future construction of the UM Confucius Institute.
Members of the delegation also include Zheng Xiuying, Director of Changping Campus Office, Zhang Xiaodong, Director of the Logistics Support Department, Li Gengsheng, Deputy Director of the Procurement and Bidding Office, and Gao Xing, International Exchange Officer of the International Exchange & Cooperation Department.
