On the afternoon of February 19, Allyn Molina, Vice President of Publishing Development at Wiley, an internationally renowned publishing house, along with Dr. Weng Bo, Editor-in-Chief of a journal, visited Beijing University of Chemical Technology. During the visit, they engaged in in-depth discussions with our university regarding collaboration on academic journals. Wang Feng, Vice President of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Wang Feng extended a warm welcome to the Wiley delegation and provided an overview of the university’s achievements in publishing papers in international academic journals. He emphasized that Beijing University of Chemical Technology, as a national “Double First-Class” institution, is dedicated to nurturing high-level innovative talent, advancing foundational and forward-looking scientific research, and pioneering original high-tech innovations. He noted that papers published by the university’s scholars in partnered journals have attracted significant attention and citations from international peers, enhancing the global dissemination of the university’s research outcomes and providing more opportunities for international academic exchanges. He expressed hope for continued academic exchange with Wiley to further support the university’s “Double First-Class” development and the implementation of its “One Body, Two Wings” strategy for international cooperation.
In her speech, Allyn Molina introduced Wiley’s background and reviewed the publishing activities of Beijing University of Chemical Technology’s faculty and researchers in relevant journals. She highlighted that with over 200 years of history, Wiley has consistently provided content, products, and services to assist researchers, professionals, educators, and students worldwide in achieving their goals. She expressed hope that Wiley’s extensive portfolio of distinguished journals would support the university’s development.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as the impact of “open science” on academia, the development of “mid-tier journals,” potential modes of collaboration, and future directions. Both parties expressed their commitment to leveraging this meeting as an opportunity to deepen collaboration and foster the ongoing growth of their amicable relationship.
Allyn Molina and Dr. Weng Bo also delivered a special presentation titled “Publishing in Wiley Physical Science Journals” to the university’s faculty and students. The presentation covered Wiley’s history, its role in the academic journal sector, and an overview of its journals in materials science and physics. Dr. Weng Bo specifically highlighted that over 5,000 papers from Beijing University of Chemical Technology have been published in Wiley journals, expressing gratitude to the faculty and students for their substantial contributions to the fields of materials and chemistry. After the presentation, the speakers held an interactive Q&A session, where they patiently addressed questions from attendees about academic writing and publishing.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, the Institute of Scientific and Technological Development, the Graduate School’s Party Committee and Graduate Affairs Office, the leadership of the Belt and Road Global Cooperation Research Institute, and distinguished young scholars from the School of Materials Science and Engineering.
