President Tan Attends 12th Board Meeting of Confucius Institute at Miskolci Egyetem, Hungary


On the afternoon of December 17, the 12th board meeting of the Confucius Institute at Miskolci Egyetem in Hungary was successfully held online. Attendees included Tan Tianwei, President of BUCT, Wang Feng, Vice President of BUCT, Zita Horváth, Rector of Miskolci Egyetem, Péter Szűcs, Vice Rector of Miskolci Egyetem, and Ma Ying, Director of the Budapest Office of Borsod, Wanhua Chemical Group Company.


Tan Tianwei expressed that the Confucius Institute at Miskolci Egyetem has made remarkable achievements since its establishment 11 years ago, thanks to the joint support of governments, universities and enterprises from both China and Hungary. He pointed out that the Confucius Institute at Miskolci Egyetem has transformed into a significant platform for disseminating Mandarin and Chinese culture in Hungary and even across Europe, which greatly contributed to the friendship and understanding between Chinese and Hungarian people. He also emphasized that 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Hungary relations have been upgraded to an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era, sailing into the "golden channel" and entering the best period in history. This offers a most solid guarantee for the two universities to deepen cooperation and to jointly promote the high-quality development of Miskolci Egyetem and the Confucius Institute in the future. Tan believes that with the joint efforts of all parties, the Confucius Institute at Miskolci Egyetem is bound to secure more success, make greater contributions to the high-level cooperation in higher education, and further enhance friendly relations between China and Hungary.

Zita Horváth highly recognized the Confucius Institute’s role in promoting cultural exchanges and people-to-people friendship between China and Hungary. She also expressed gratitude to BUCT and Borsod, Wanhua for their support of the Confucius Institute. Péter Szűcs said that the Confucius Institute at Miskolci Egyetem is an important platform for the two universities to carry out exchanges and cooperation, and for Miskolci Egyetem to enhance its internationalization level as well. He hopes that the two universities will continue to deepen cooperation through the Confucius Institute, and break new ground in the fields of international talent training, technological innovation, and cultural exchange.

Vice President Wang Feng acknowledged the accomplishments of the Confucius Institute at Miskolci Egyetem in 2024 and extended his heartfelt thanks to all faculty for their endeavors. He also held three expectations for the Confucius Institute to make new breakthroughs in its future work: Firstly, the Institute should continue to promote the relevance and practicality of its Mandarin teaching, develop more Mandarin courses, and integrate language teaching with local culture, so as to meet the needs of different students and further improve its quality of teaching and level of school-running; Secondly, the Institute should consistently expand cooperation with Miskolci Egyetem and Wanhua. Continued efforts should be made to push forward the joint undergraduate training program between BUCT, Miskolci Egyetem and Wanhua, with the aim of cultivating more well-rounded talents with international horizons and cross-cultural communication skills, and better serving the development of Chinese enterprises in Hungary; Thirdly, the Institute should continuously promote self-publicity and mobilize various channels to spread its teaching achievements and cultural activities, so as to further elevate its reputation and profile.

The board members reviewed and approved the Confucius Institute’s final accounts of 2023 and budget for 2024, and listened to the reports on its work summary of 2024 as well as work plans for 2025.

Ke Danqing, Hungarian Dean of the Confucius Institute at Miskolci Egyetem, Zhao Jing, Chinese Dean of the Confucius Institute at Miskolci Egyetem, Zhang Bing, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department, and Zhang Wan, Director of the Confucius Institute Office, attended the meeting.
