From November 25 to 29, the III International Chemistry Olympiad was held in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan. More than 200 students from 44 universities in 13 countries including China, Russia and Romania participated in the event. Beijing University of Chemical Technology, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), and Xinjiang University are the three universities representing China in this competition. This is the first time for BUCT to participate in the International Chemistry Olympiad. Two teams consisting of 10 teachers and students were sent to compete, who came back with 3 golds, 3 silvers, 2 bronzes, a team silver and the highest score in Group B.

Group A participants are Mu Fujia, Qiu Yotong, Li Xinyi, Chen Tian, all from Hongde College. Group B participants include Zhao Jianyu (College of Life Science and Technology), Yang Chunyue (College of Chemistry), Diao Kexiang (College of Materials Science and Engineering), Hua Lei (College of Chemical Engineering). The leading teachers are Zhang Xin (College of Chemistry) and Yu Yue (School of International Education).

The competition is an all-theoretical written test covering inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, etc. The elimination rate is 50%, making it extremely difficult and challenging. But our teams made thorough preparations and meticulous arrangements for this competition. Before the competition, the School of Chemistry conducted a two-week training course in chemical expertise and English for the participants. During the competition, the students not only demonstrated their excellent skills by facing up to challenges, but also exchanged ideas and established deep friendships with outstanding university students from all over the world in the communication sessions. This fully exercised the students' comprehensive theoretical knowledge and skills in chemistry, and improved their international communication abilities while broadening their horizons. were, The International Exchange and Cooperation Department, the College of Chemistry, the School of International Education, Hongde College, the College of Chemical Engineering, the College of Materials Science and Engineering, and the College of Life Science and Technology provided support and guarantees for BUCT teams to compete in this event.

This is the first time for BUCT to organize teachers and students to participate in this competition, which is of pioneering significance and is an important manifestation of BUCT's efforts to deepen educational reform, innovate international talent training models, and improve the quality of talent cultivation.
