University of Georgia Delegation Visits BUCT


On August 9, a delegation from the University of Georgia (UGA) led by Bjorn Birgisson, Chair of the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering, Luke Li, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering, and Yajun Yan, Professor from the College of Chemical Materials, Materials Science and Biomedical Engineering visited BUCT for discussion on cooperation and academic exchanges. Wang Feng, Vice President of BUCT met with the delegation. Attending the meeting were Zhang Bing, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department, Cheng Daojian, Dean of the College of Chemical Engineering, Yan Hong, Vice Dean of the School of International Education, Liu Guangqing, Executive Director of the Belt and Road Institute for Global Cooperation, and Zhang Tingting , Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of the College of Chemical Engineeringand Prof. Chen Chang. Zhang Bing presided over the meeting.

Wang Feng extended a warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of BUCT. After reviewing the history and past achievements of the cooperation between the two universities, he expressed strong hopes for  expanding cooperation on the solid foundation of the past and working for greater achievements in the areas of joint student cultivation, Chinese-Foreign cooperation in school running, and joint researches.

At the meeting, Zhang Bing expressed thanks to the University of Georgia for its long-term support. Liu Guangqing gave a general overview of BUCT as well as an introduction to its disciplinary settings and international exchanges and cooperation. Representative of the Department of Environmental Engineering reported on the joint cultivation of environmental engineering students and the curriculum of Chinese-Foreign cooperative education programs. Cheng Daojian introduced the School of Chemical Engineering and expressed his hope for further cooperation in student training and scientific research in the field of environmental engineering with UGA. Yan Hong made suggestions on the current curriculum setting and teaching mode, proposing to step up international education cooperation in environmental engineering. Bjorn Birgisson expressed thanks for the warm reception and fully affirmed the smooth progress of the two sides’ cooperation in the international education of environmental engineering students. He then profiled the University of Georgia and the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering, introducing its characteristic disciplines and representative research results. Given that the two universities are very complementary in programs and disciplines, he expected that UGA and BUCT will cooperate further in international education and research in environment, chemical industry, and machinery.

During the visit, Bjorn Birgisson and Luke Li delivered to BUCT teachers and students two lectures respectively titled "Resilient Transportation Infrastructure - A Way Forward" and "Modeling Environmental System at Different Scales-PFAS as a case study".
