On March 11th, a delegation from the University of Strathclyde headed by Deputy Associate Principal (International), Alex Galloway, visited Beijing University of Chemical Technology. BUCT Vice President Wang Feng welcomed the delegation at the ensuing meeting presided over by Zhang Bing, Director of BUCT International Exchange and Cooperation Department.
Wang extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He pointed out that there have been close exchanges at the university-level since 2007 when the two universities officially established cooperation, and that remarkable results have been registered in high-level scientific research cooperation, teacher exchange visits and student joint training. Looking to the future, he said, the two universities should build on the solid foundation of previous cooperation and their respective edge in discipline and talent cultivation, further strengthen teacher-student communication and deepen collaboration in scientific research and personnel training for a more comprehensive international partnership of higher quality.
Alex Galloway expressed his heartfelt thanks for the warm reception and highly appreciated the remarkable results achieved over the years of cooperation. He pointed out that in the nearly two-decade cooperation, the two universities have cultivated outstanding talents in mechanical engineering through joint programs based on disciplinary advantages. Communication in scientific research and cultural exchanges among students are also enhanced through student exchange programs. It is hoped that in the future, the two universities will continue to collaborate in education and scientific research and elevate exchanges to a new level of wider cooperation.
Feng Jianghong, Deputy Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department, briefed the delegation on BUCT’s development and global cooperation Participants from both sides exchanged in-depth views and have agreed to increase teacher-student exchanges, student exchanges, and joint programs in future.
Delegates also include Stuart Shorthouse, Head of International Development & Recruitment in Faculty of Engineering, Bradley Peter Wynne, Head of the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, and Nicola Jane McPake, the International Relationship Manager at the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering. Staff from BUCT International Exchange and Cooperation Department, College of Material Science and Engineering, and College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering also attended the meeting.

Since its cooperation with BUCT in 2007, the university has set up a couple of mechanical and electrical engineering programs including 2+2 double BA degree, 3+1+1 joint program, summer school etc., and has turned out a batch of outstanding alumni.
