BUCT Appoints Professor Nilakantan Mohankrishnan from University of Detroit as Visiting Professor

On the afternoon of June 6th, the ceremony for Beijing University of Chemical Technology(BUCT) to appoint Professor Nilakantan Mohankrishnan from University of Detroit (UD) as visiting professor was held in Room 218 of the Huaxin Building where Vice-president Chen Dongsheng, Party Branch Secretary Liu Zhenjuan directly under International Education College, Vice-director Chen Guohua of Personnel Department, Vice-director Wang Yongsheng of International Affairs Department, Vice-dean Zhang Yajun of College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Vice-dean Feng Jianghong of International Education College, and other faculty representatives attended. Secretary Liu Zhenjuan presided over the ceremony.

Vice-dean Feng Jianghong introduced Prof. Mohankrishnan’s education background, teaching experience and scientific researches. Vice-president Chen Dongsheng awarded him the appointment letter, and the student representative presented him flowers and helped him wear the school badge. Vice-president Chen extended warm welcome to Prof. Mohankrishnan as BUCT visiting professor and hoped him  make more contributions to the improvement of cooperative education programs and the development of two universities’ partnership. With the honor of being BUCT visiting professor, Prof. Mohankrishnan expressed his gratitude to BUCT for its warm reception. He said that he was full of confidence in students under the cooperative education program and looked forward to their studying in the United States in the next stage. After being BUCT visiting professor, he hoped to promote the establishment of long-term relations in academic exchanges and research cooperation in the future.

After the ceremony, Prof. Mohankrishnan gave an academic lecture titled “Introduction of Autonomous Mobile Robots” for BUCT teachers and students. It focused on autonomous mobile robotics (including the basic concepts of sensing, perception, motion planning, execution, locating, mapping and recognition) and autonomous mobile robot applications. At the end of the lecture, Prof. Mohankrishnan interacted with the audience and answered their questions.

Professor Nilakantan Mohankrishnan achieved his bachelor and master degrees in Electric Engineering Technology in Indian Institutes of Technology, and in 1984 got his PHD in Electrical Engineering in University of Windsor, Canada. After 1984, he has been working in University of Detroit for 32 years. Now his researches mainly involve digital signal processing, especially the application of one-dimensional and two-dimensional signal patterns recognition, application of computational intelligence, modeling of electron-mechanical system and engineering education. Prof. Mohankrishnan has published several high-level academic articles in top journals of robot industry. Besides, he is a senior member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers(IEEE), American Society of Engineering Education(ASEE) and Eta Kappa Nu.
